Why do cooker elements fail

Cheers mate, you not Cyprus bound for Christmas? It only happens in the UK mate. Today most of my local colleges here all wished me felicitations of the season, and this is one of the most strictest non Christian countries you can get. Ok Christmas is nowhere to be seen, and certainly not celebrated but in private it is tolerated and everyone wishes you well, as it should be. Marvo - Staff member. Reaction score 9, If the element's lasting 3 months I'm thinking it would rule out most of the usual reasons for failure such as wrong voltage, too high heat density tube for air, etc.

Probably just poor quality hastelloy tube. One other thought, is it possible that both elements there are normally two are actually failed and the one replaced element is being over taxed to try and maintain the oven temperature.

But i may get a good break Chinese New Year!! My answer to those that are in anyway offended by Christmas and what it stands for, would be I'm dammed sure that NONE will take up that solution!!! Post reply. Insert quotes….

When you switch the oven on, the element heats up. This heat is then circulated around the oven by the fan. When the inside of the oven reaches the desired temperature, a thermostat tells the element to turn off. It is important to understand here that fan oven elements cannot change the amount of heat they disperse; they are either on or off. Once the element has turned off, the oven will begin to cool down. The thermostat will then tell the element to turn back on when it detects a drop-in temperature inside the oven.

This constant switch between the element being on and off is commonly known as cycling, and can happen numerous times during a single typical oven use. This constant expansion and retraction can play a huge part in the wear and tear of the element, and eventually lead to them being unable to function correctly.
