What was your experience with zoloft
I have been on 25mg of Sertraline for a little over a month now. While it has not completely gotten rid of my anxiety it has made it way more manageable, and I wish I had started sooner.
The first few days were rough with extreme fatigue, and what I felt to be very few emotions or thoughts, this went away around day I still don't have quite the normal appetite I did before starting, otherwise those were my only side effects. I was very scared to take medication for my anxiety, because of bad side effects and reviews I have read, but so far this has been working for me.
I have been suffering with depression and anxiety for 8 years now. No therapy or treatment has made a major difference. I started with 50mg of Sertaline a day for 2 weeks and have been on mg since about 6 months now. I have experienced some side effects such as insomnia, loss of apetite for the first few weeks, but despite that I could already feel a great relief.
I have completely stopped having my usual mental breakdows that would otherwise occur almost daily. My anxiety has eased loads, I feel confident talking to people again. I am still depressed but at least not that suicidal anymore and most importantly not stuck in the neverending cycle of crying every day out of despair. If I stop taking it, after about months I get horrible bouts of alternating anxiety and depression.
Promised to do a review after taking this since I read so many. I was incredibly scared to start sertraline after reading countless reviews about the permanent side effects especially sexual , but I am so glad I went with it anyways. Mood is lifted, less hopelessness, no loss of libido.
Stuck with 50mg for 3 days only. On day 1 experienced too many negative side effects. First diarrhea and nausea which lasted days after stopping. Then had loss of appetite and complete lack of energy, sleeping 18 hours a day. Worst of all I experienced anxiety and panic attacks, much worse than before taking the medication.
Going outside to complete the simplest task became a major ordeal. I couldn't go past day 3 , side effects lasted for days after, never again. I have had issues with anxiety for multiple years after my children. It was bothersome but bouts usually passed.
During the pandemic things got to the point where it was interfering with my ability to function. I have been taking 25 mg sertraline for 4 weeks.
The first 2. Intensified anxiety to the point of wanting to stop taking the meds, diarrhea, insomnia, jitters, indigestion and headaches. Most symptoms settled after 2 weeks and headaches stopped after 3. If that works awesome, but if I need the meds so be it. I am a 22 year old male who is currently on mg. I was prescribed Zoloft for SAD.
My main cause of anxiety was going out to eat. I had always enjoyed going out before, but suddenly it was a cause of great anxiety. I would avoid going out if possible and going out was a crippling experience. At mg and about 3 months after I started taking it my anxiety melted away. It really did give me my life back. The first two-three weeks I took it I did feel more anxious and sick but just keep with it.
I was only able to take it for two days. First night, 50mg as directed by my doctor. Vomiting, diarrhea, extreme nausea, insomnia, it was literal hell. Next night, I was stupid and decided to give it another shot and just take a half dose of 25mg to maybe see if that would help my other side effects.
Sertraline was the second antidepressant I tried. I have both severe anxiety and depression which meant that after being on it for half a year with no effects whatsoever, I eventually made my way up to mg with still no effects. I'd say that this would likely be effective in mild cases but anything moderate to severe it won't work at all. The usual symptoms such as headaches that come with antidepressants were also present, but manageable.
OCD and social anxiety were terrible. With Zoloft I am a totally different person. I can make friends with anybody in the room which I need to for my job. I am extremely motivated to succeed on this medication. Zoloft is great. Keep with it! This was probably one of the scariest medications I have ever taken.
I was prescribed this medication for migrianes and anxiety attacks. The nausea was very bad. I was scared to take a shower my legs were very wobbly and shaky.
I had to stop taking it after a month. Please get another opinion for the medicine there are better medications out there that are better than Zoloft. I was prescribed Zoloft 50 mg once a day for anxiety and panic attacks.
I started 1 week taking 25 mg every night. I experienced more anxiety, diarrhea and loss of appetite during the day. When I started the 50 mg I felt worse but I had read reviews from other people that went through the same experience and I stayed on it. I have been on 50 mg for 3 months and have not had a need to increase the dose. I feel so much better. My appetite is back, I sleep great and I can go out shopping alone and back to a normal social life.
Was trying to cope with anxiety on own for years. I was prescribed 50mg of zoloft. Tight jaw, racing feeing, breathing was off, I was going in and out of sleep while my husband was talking with me. I started to feel pretty uncomfortable and anxious. By pm, I had stomach pains, diharrea, and nausea. The nausea came on strong and fast. I started vomitting around 12am and that lasted about 1. Took two benedryl to stop nausea and to get some sleep.
I felt awful all day Sat, sleeping, no appitite, blurred vission, and headache. Never ever again. So I promised myself I would write a review if Zoloft started working for me. I am now I was on paxil for the 20 years. In my 30s I tried switching because of weight gain. I tried Effexor, celexa, cymbalta, lexapro and Prozac. I had a really bad reaction to Prozac. Any how, non of the meds worked as well as paxil, so I went back on it. However, the weight packed right back on. I was so uncomfortable with my appearance.
Finally after talking with my psychiatrist we decided to try Zoloft. I have been on Zoloft for 8 weeks today. I persisted though as I know sometimes medicine takes a bit longer. I believe over the next month it will be working even better.
I take mg. Do not get scared if the medicine takes longer than 6 weeks to work. Give it time. So I started doing 50mg for 6 weeks. I did miss a few doses and after the 6 weeks I was upped to mg. I personally haven't experienced side effects except for really bad heartburn when I took it on an empty stomach with little water. Maybe a little bit lower libido but it wasn't too bad.
If you have acid reflux or a history of it, make sure you have at least something in your stomach and drink plenty of water. If you notice heartburn after you take this, I HIGHLY recommend taking 3 antacid tablets mg as soon as possible because it was the worst heartburn I ever had.
I am feeling more uplifted and getting up and starting my day isn't so difficult. I actually look forward to my day for the first time in two years. Depression made me fail school but I am going back and feeling great with this. I am taking this with busparine, an anti-anxiety medicine. All the best. Panic disorder for 10 years Lexapro was first- which made me sleep for 15 hours a day This risk is higher if you are also taking other serotonin-related medications like triptans a common migraine medication , tricyclic antidepressants, or the pain medication Ultram tramadol.
But the syndrome can occur when taking Zoloft alone, as well. Signs and symptoms of this condition include:. To be proactive in avoiding this rare syndrome, be sure to tell your doctor all the medications you are taking, including any over-the-counter drugs or supplements. There is an increased chance of bleeding when taking Zoloft along with medications that block platelets or medications that thin your blood.
Notify your doctor right away of any bleeding events, like nosebleeds or increased bruising. Seek medical attention immediately if you notice more serious bleeding events, such as blood in your stool.
Zoloft can trigger a hypomanic or manic episode in a person with bipolar disorder. Before taking Zoloft, tell your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed or suspected of having bipolar disorder, or have a family history of it. In severe cases, hyponatremia can lead to seizures and other serious neurologic and medical issues. Signs and symptoms of hyponatremia include:. While not common, if you take Zoloft and develop signs or symptoms of an allergic reaction like rash, hives, swelling, or problems breathing, contact your doctor right away.
You should inform your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Zoloft or are planning a pregnancy. Zoloft use in the third trimester may increase a baby's chance of developing complications like a rare condition known as persistent pulmonary hypertension, which can cause breathing problems. In addition, third-trimester use of Zoloft may cause neonatal withdrawal symptoms. However, some women may need to continue taking Zoloft during pregnancy because the benefit of treating their illness outweighs the potential risks.
Overall, this decision requires a careful and thoughtful discussion with both an obstetrician and mental health professional. Low levels of Zoloft may be present in breast milk, so lactating parents should consult with their doctors before nursing while taking this medication. Breastfeeding is typically encouraged unless there is a medical reason for the parent to avoid breastfeeding.
Try to take your Zoloft at the same time every day. Setting a timer on your phone may be helpful so you don't forget. If you do miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is too close to your next dose. In other words, never take two doses of Zoloft at the same time. Simply take your next scheduled dose and then return to your usual schedule. Contact a poison control center and your doctor for guidance if you or a loved one overdoses on Zoloft. The most common signs and symptoms associated with Zoloft overdose include:.
This is one reason why it's important to consult with your doctor before stopping this medication. Before prescribing Zoloft, your doctor will take a thorough medical history. Even so, it's important for you to play an active role in your care.
